Looking for new ways to improve drinking water quality, while also increasing the overall efficiency of your treatment works?
Join Spring and IXOM Watercare on Tuesday, 25th February to discover how they have supported Yorkshire Water in reaching water compliance goals with their innovative MIEX® technology.
MIEX is an innovative ion exchange process technology used to remove dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and to reduce disinfection by-products (DBPs) formation such as THMs at water treatment plants final treated water.
Yorkshire Water took on MIEX as a solution to the increasing levels of raw water colour and DOC they were experiencing at Langsett Water Treatment Works (WTW), originating from the extensive peat moorlands within the reservoir catchments, and combat THM levels in final treated water to ensure compliance.
At Langsett WTW, the MIEX process acted as a novel raw water pre-treatment phase, upstream of the existing treatment processes and with complex connections to existing live raw water mains to feed the new process. These critical connections were designed to limit the duration of any associated shut-down periods for the existing WTW during the building and commissioning stages. These connections ensured that MIEX process fitted into the existing hydraulic profile of the plant.
By removing DOC ahead of the existing treatment process, MIEX was able to reduce the organic loading to the conventional process. This led to an average of 50% reduction in coagulation chemicals as well as a more efficient overall coagulation process with no excessive turbidity outflow. Less solids loading on the filters extended the time between backwashing, and less DOC in the final treated water also allowed for a 25% reduction in chlorine dosing for the target residual.
Sign up to this Spring showcase to hear from the project team about the trialling of this innovative MIEX solution as a water quality solution; and how it resulted in record low THM in the final treated water, while also increasing water production from the WTW during high DOC seasons of up to 33%.
